MNVBCA Academic Awards

The MNVBCA sponsors a two different types of academic awards:

ACADEMIC ALL-STATE awards are for seniors on the section playoff roster that have a 3.80 cumulative grade point average over the course of their high school career. Coaches may download an editable certificate through the button below that may be printed and distributed to qualifying players.
Academic All-State Certificate
TEAM ACADEMIC awards are for teams whose team GPA is 3.50 or higher. Teams with a GPA from 3.75-4.00 receive the Gold Academic Award. Teams with a GPA from 3.50-3.74 receive the Silver Academic Award. Team GPA's are calculated using the 10 highest cumulative and non-weighted GPA's of players on the section playoff roster. Players in 9th grade or younger may not be used in the calculation. Team GPA's must be submitted by the coach prior to the nomination deadline (11:59 pm on Monday, October 20). Use the link below to nominate your team for the Team Academic award. Notes regarding the process:
  • It is recommended that the submitting coach does the math (average of all submitted player GPAs) prior to submission. This way coaches will know what level their team qualifies for prior to submitting (or if they don't qualify).
  • Coaches will not receive a response from the MNVBCA unless there are errors or the submission does not qualify.
  • Winners will be posted on this website through the link below and on the scoreboard at the Grand Casino Arena during the week of the State Tournament.
  • Schools will receive an award plate to be placed on the Team Academic plaque at their respective school over the winter.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why aren't 9th graders included in the calculation?
A: Considering that 9th graders are in the middle of their first semester of high school, they do not yet have an official calculated GPA to submit.

Q: What if I don't have 10 players from grades 10-12 to submit? Does that make my team ineligible?
A: Your team is still eligible for the Team Academic Award even if you don't have 10 players from grades 10-12 on the roster. Submit all of the cumulative GPAs available from players on the playoff roster from grades 10-12, and those will be used in the calculation.

Q: Can managers or statisticians be used in the calculation since they are on the playoff roster?
A: No, only player GPA's can be used in the calculation.
